Digg Warns of Updates
Is this good news or bad news? Reading between the lines on this most recent announcement, I hear Mr. Anton saying a couple of things here. The primary issue to be addressed is the issue of multiple entries. People often submit the same URL or story multiple times which drowns out other stories and weakens the original.
Fair Chance
“Our goal is to give each person a fair chance at getting his or her submission promoted to the home page.”
Is this realistic? That would be nice. I know many people that have done everything to try and reach the homepage and still failed. How can they possibly provide a fair shot for everyone?
New Features
“We are also developing new features and Digg experiences that will encourage participation and discovery of content outside of the home page proper. These changes will contribute to a much broader platform for the Digg community to share and discuss stories.”
These new features sound great. Details please! Does this mean my poor little blog has a chance to be seen on Digg? I know that these changes have come with costs. Many people have been banned or locked out of Digg in an attempt to even the playing field. Not sure how even it will ever be.
Thoughts
Personally I would like to see some new thinking, a new Digg competitor or fast paced startup. Something that really catches on like twitter but with Digg-like qualities. What would you like to see? What is you favorite Digg alternative?

Comments
It seems that as always the actions of a few seems to stuff it up for the majority. Whereas the updates may frustrate those few I think the majority will welcome it.
I personally would like to see more categories as there are a lot of times I can’t find a category to suit a particular site. Hopefully it doesn’t become like twitter as I feel a lot of the time all those tweets are an annoyance.

Personally I haven’t had much luck with Digg and so I haven’t had much to do with it of late. Perhaps with these changes it may be time to give them another go. Any idea when these new features are supposed to take place?
Also, it would be nice if you installed a plugin that would allow people to subscribe to individual comments. It may assist in getting them to come back upon notification of replies.
