Social Web Makes Vacationing Fun
This past weekend I took a trip to San Diego with my wife and everything that was planned was done online. It is really amazing how useful the internet and the social web can be when traveling. We printed out our reservations, planned our routes and travel time all online. We also used yelp.com more times than I can count and found the other member reviews to be very useful. I recently purchased the “google phone” G1 and used the maps and GPS integration constantly. I found it to be particularly useful when walking around downtown San Diego.
Writing Reviews
We made yelp.com part of our vacation experience by adding our own bits of information. We uploaded photos and wrote candid reviews, in an attempt to add to the value of the community and help out the next person planning to visit the restaurant in question. We had fun with yelp and our dinning experience by taking photos of the food and locations as well as writing out our experiences. The photos of other users made it easier to make a decision and because of that we felt it was important to upload photos that we felt were useful. There is no doubt that we could learn a few things about writing reviews and a review outline of some sort would have been helpful.
I plan to research some review outlines and standards that I can share here. If you have used a review style or tool and would like to share, I would love to hear what you have to say.
