Your Blog E-book - Thank You Amazon Kindle

image Imagine a wireless, portable and automatigically updating ( via Whispernet) portable reading device. No more thump of the newspaper, in the wee hours of the morning, on the front porch. Forget putting on the robe to brave the cold or grab the wet paper in the rain. The Amazon Kindle can solve real problems for everyone. I can see the massive potential for the device and the rapidly growing audience. As a blogger, I am excited about the potential for anyone, even an average Joe,  to write an Ebook or have a blog distributed to the unknown thousands of kindle owners.

Publishing Your Ebook or Blog

If you elect to publish you work via Amazon for the Kindle masses then you will need to register on Amazon’s Digital Text Platform. Best of all, there is no charge to publish your content on the Kindle Store with Digital Text Platform. So its easy to publish but you may be wondering how much you can sell your Ebooks for. Here is a quote from author Edward C. Patterson I found in the Kindle forums:

“The contract is near standard with a royalty split on sales of 30% to the author, which is liberal since all my standard contracts that I’ve signed give only 15%. Of course, one doesn’t get rich on 30% of $3.99. You need to provide banking information and, of course, Tax stuff.  - Edward C. Patterson - author of The Jade Owl Legacy series

Kindle Blogs

There are a limited number of popular blogs available on the Kindle. A few that you might recognize such as TechCrunch, LifeHacker, Truemors, Slashdot and many others. Looks like Amazon is selling access to these blogs for $1.99 per month but I am not sure If I would actually pay for such a subscription given the numbers of hours I spend on my PC with free access to all of these. Even still, I am excited about the prospect of have a blog published on this platform.

My Favorites from the Kindle FAQ

Q: I only want to read books by FAMOUS authors published by BIG NAME publishing companies. Is there anyway to sort the offerings at amazon so I don’t have to look at this self-published crap that is cluttering up the Kindle store?
A: No. And frankly, with that attitude, you are going to miss a lot of good writing by new, up and coming authors. But that’s a rant for another thread…  - I like how this sounds, power to the people!

Q: Do I have to buy books only from Amazon?
A: No, there are plenty of other sites selling ebooks, as well as multiple sites with free books that can be read on the Kindle. (Maybe someone wants to expand on this answer with more detail.) - This means there is an opportunity to sell obscure or niche Ebooks on your own site.

Summary

Kindle isn’t the first Ebook platform to hit the streets but its definitely the most comprehensive while considering Amazon’s Digital Text Platform (DTP). It is really inspirational for an independent author or blogger. If you were going to write a book do you think you would be interested in publishing to via DTP and if not why?
