The 4-hour Work Week

My view of the book, 4-hour work week, by Timothy Ferris.  This book is what has inspired me to start this blog.  So it probably goes without saying that I found this book to be very interesting and extremely compelling.  This book comes with one caveat, it requires faith, in yourself and your abilities.  You really must eliminate all fear before pursuing some of the recommendations in this book or otherwise you may find yourself getting in your own way.

After reading this book and browsing Timothy’s blog online.  I get the impression that he’s a very high-energy person.  You probably went to school with someone just like him who partied all night or ran 12 miles and then went to class.  I don’t actually know him, and I’m just making this assumption based on what I’ve read.  I don’t know that I am quite as high-energy as he is but i suppose I could be.  However, the information in the book is very inspiring.  Basically it boils down to a simple acronym DEAL. This acronym stands for defined, eliminate, automate, liberate.

What’s interesting is that I already found myself working on the elimination portion of this book prior to having read it.  I must admit though that I was doing it rather blindly. I Had been contemplating leaving my job for some time.  My initial idea was to start my own business in a similar line of work. The goal from the very beginning when I started down this mental path was to create more time for myself and my family. This book gives some great ideas about how to get started.

If you want to cut to the chase and get to the meat of the book you really want to focus on the automate and liberate portion of the deal acronym.

If you’re already employed and you’re in a relatively important position within your organization.  You can attack the Liberate concept rather easily. For more information check out http://thefourhourworkweek.com, or just go buy the book.
